Meet Nick

Nick was raised in Baltimore County, and he and his wife Katie are proud to be raising their four kids here too.  They want a future where the next generation can afford to buy a home, raise their kids in strong, safe schools, build vibrant careers and communities, and enjoy their retirements – all right here in this County we love.

Nick has spent his life working on the very issues now confronting the County, from co-founding a local advocacy group to fight for more housing and neighborhood investment, to leading as Vice Chair of the School Board to improve transparency and results, to serving on the Workforce Development Board to connect workers to jobs and increase economic competitiveness.

Having developed a bold, fresh vision for the County, he believes this is our moment to unite as “One County” and move into the modern era by making government smarter, expanding housing and revitalizing communities, driving economic growth, and improving trust in public safety and schools.

Why I'm Running

I’m running for County Executive because Baltimore County is at a crossroads, and there’s no time to wait.  We need an outsider who has the vision to meet this moment and the practical experience inside and outside government to back it up and deliver real results for our working families.

What’s My Vision

Modernize Government & Unite Our Communities

Nick Stewart believes Baltimore County’s systems aren’t built for the challenges of today – they’re stuck in a culture of bureaucracy, where red tape too often replaces results.  In Nick’s view, it simply shouldn’t take six years to build a new home, fifteen years to build a high school or an hour and a half to travel by bus between two major job centers in the county.

That’s why Nick is calling for a fundamental shift in how county government operates – streamlining processes, breaking through gridlock and focusing on real outcomes that serve people, not paperwork.  He will modernize at every level and foster collaboration across departments so projects get done and communities move forward.  To Nick, this is Baltimore County’s moment to choose progress over endless procedure.

Improve Public Safety and Public Schools

Nick Stewart knows that strong communities are built on two essential pillars: public safety and public schools.  But just as important as the services themselves is the trust that holds it all together.  Whether it’s parents sending their kids to school, families walking their neighborhoods or residents relying on county services, people need to believe their government is transparent, accountable and working for them.

Nick’s approach focuses on breaking down silos between agencies, using data and technology to improve outcomes and expanding outreach to ensure every voice is heard.  His plan calls for 360 degrees of accountability – measuring results, not rhetoric, and driving continuous improvement through real collaboration.  At the heart of this work is a simple but powerful principle: no one in Baltimore County should feel unsafe, unsupported or left behind.

Solve Housing Crisis & Revitalize Communities

Baltimore County is facing a housing and economic crossroads – and Nick Stewart is sounding the alarm.  Housing costs are soaring, property tax assessments have spiked by 25% and once-thriving malls and shopping centers now sit empty.  For the first time in a century, the county is losing population. Economic growth has stalled, and opportunity is slipping away.

Nick has a plan to change that.  He will make housing more affordable, revitalize dying commercial spaces and build vibrant, inclusive communities where people want to live, work, play and learn.  He believes economic development and community investment must go hand in hand – unlocking new investment while ensuring that the benefits are shared by everyone, not just a few.
